About Michelle

Michelle Hohlier is a contemporary artist based in Norman, Oklahoma, creating original work that explores color as both structure and expression. Her practice moves fluidly between abstract and figurative work, united by a deep curiosity for how color shapes emotion, balance, and presence within a space.

Rooted in a lifelong love of wildlife, shaped by growing up in northern Michigan, Michelle’s work has evolved to include both bold wildlife paintings and refined abstract compositions. While the subjects may shift, color remains the constant thread, serving as the primary language through which each piece is built. Whether through structured oil pastel works, layered mixed-media abstracts, or expressive wildlife paintings, her work is guided by intuition, discipline, and a desire to continually push creative boundaries.

Michelle approaches her practice as an evolving exploration rather than a fixed style. She intentionally works across mediums to study rhythm, contrast, and restraint allowing each body of work to inform the next. This openness to experimentation results in artwork that feels both confident and alive, designed to live comfortably in homes, offices, and thoughtfully curated spaces.

Her work is created with collectors and designers in mind, balancing visual impact with livability. Each piece is developed through a process-driven approach that values material quality, composition, and longevity. Rather than chasing trends, Michelle focuses on producing original, considered work that invites connection and rewards sustained viewing.

Michelle’s artwork is held in private collections and professional spaces, and she continues to expand her practice through new collections and ongoing exploration. She lives and works in Norman, Oklahoma, where she maintains an active studio practice.
